the west south west

Sat in a campsite just on the edge of sagres, on the map it reminds you of lands end.  This site is beautiful, tall, tall pine trees all over and just enough space made to camp inbetween.  Its breezy and the noise gets your attention; there's not a cloud and the brightest blue sky is above.
I'm really reporting something unexpected as we have in the last two days seen striking scenery and visited beachside villages. Heading for the algarve was really only because there's a very nice Villa we can stay in for free for a few days- do some jobs on the van, have middle of the night toilet trips indoors etc- but as there is no BIG roads this way we've seen more. There is very little international traffic either so minimal development at the places you come to, for the sake of a decent toilet this is well worth it.
Porto Covo was our stop over last night, we reached it partly because the satnav's directions to the site we had chosen once again involved a single dirt track; we followed our common sense and not the satnav to the beach and found tiny cove beaches, a few restaurants and a campsite.   We could have made a comedy series out of the boy working in campsite reception but that's another story.
So after a slightly underwhelming mid-portugal drive and the city of Lisbon -which is well worth a long weekend- the south west has been a pleasure before we approach the algarve with caution.
